Eczema is a commonly seen disease in Singapore which troubled many people.  The biggest reasons which trigger eczema are due to hereditary and climate.  The disease can be controlled effectively should there be an early treatment using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Eczema is a type of dermatological allergic inflammation which is often seen in certain specific areas such as the head, face, hands and calves.  Its characteristics are polymorphous rashes, tendency to exudate, symmetrical distribution of intense itching, easy to relapse and chronic.  If the patient discovers a precursor of eczema appearing on the skin such as symptoms of redness, swelling and itchiness, early treatment is required.  When the skin resistance worsens during deterioration of the disease, it will be more difficult to treat.  Sometimes there will be small blisters, dissipation and even peeling of the skin.  The skin will be more itchy when the patient scratches and often, there will be patches of redness and swelling on the skin.

TCM treatment mainly comprises of oral Chinese herbal medication or external treatment such as acupuncture.  According to the patient’s body constitution and the different stages of eczema, different Chinese medicine treatments are used to control the disease effectively through differential diagnosis.  For acupuncture, we normally use acupoints that clear wind, ease of itchiness, invigorating the spleen, nourishing the blood and calming the nerves such as FengChi, QuChi, FengShi, ZuSanLi, XueHai, WeiZhong and ShenMen.
